IVIYH EXCLUSIVE: TEXTBEAK INTERVIEW + FUCKING INSANE TWO PART MIX + TRACK LEAK FREE DOWNLOADZZZZZZZZZZ

I honestly only invite people to do these mixes and interviews if they’re doing something that impresses the shit out of me. I feel so cold most of the time, that it takes something far beyond the ceaselessly expanding mundane for me to even hear a track anymore, let alone remember it long enough to post, my mind wanders so badly, that it feels like I’m constantly checking out mentally, maybe one day I will check out from an overdose of total waste of digital-space bullshit, maybe I wasn’t cut out to listen to 1000 tracks a night, well at least it makes it harder for me to get lazy and post garbage, you win again.

If you’re not already up on TEXTBEAK, then you’re showing up at a pretty amazing time, we’re T-1 DAY until the 9/18/12 release of TEXTBEAK-N-TNDROND The Spirit Of Opposition, THE BEATS FUCKING DESTROY, SOME CAREER DEFINING SHIT GOING ON HERE, and this is in the face of a fucking amazing catalog of music he’s already put out.

GET THE EARLY JUMP A DAY BEFORE ALL THE OTHER BITCHES WITH THIS LEAK OF “THE ONLY” FREE DOWNLOAD HERE: 01 The Only (DEFA + TXTBK) OR, STREAM HERE:

But, lets get down to these TWO HUGE FUCKING MIXES, JESUSFUCKINGCHRIST SO BADASS, SO MANY GREAT TRACKS, actually it’s a part one and part two situation of ONE MIX, but WHAT THE FUCK, was he trying to drive me storage-bankrupt hosting this, well I would host this shit even if I was down to my last kb, I’ve had both parts looping for the last day straight trying to absorb it, and learn how he puts his shit together, total flow. If there is method here, he hides it well, the way a mix should be made.

The flavor I taste most is fear, coupled with a lack of understanding for anything that goes on in this world, which is what motivated me to start interviewing these artists and labels, to try to understand what it’s like for them to touch this magic, and discover why I never have. SO ALL OF thAT bullshit to say THERE’S a fucking fantastic interview, with actual relevant opinions below, I’ll even go as far to say this is the DEFINITIVE TEXTBEAK INTERVIEW. GET HIS TRACK + ENJOY THESE FUCKINGGGGGGGGG MIXESSSSSSSSSSSS.

INTERVIEW:

I know you have an extensive history with music, can you give my readers brief tour through each of your projects through out the years, and how did you get started in music, what was your first experience like composing/writing songs?

Sure, here is a brief run through… at the end of high school I had several mostly experimental projects with Todd Sines and various other people. Todd and I recorded a lot of that material to cassette tapes. We made a cassette release for our band Dirge.

All of my friends at the time were making music and jamming together. We would all skate and go to shows and make music. DEFA (Ben Hartman), Tim DCoy, Voctave (Rob Nagy), Claus Muzak (Lucas Kuzma), and Kasson Crooker (The Planets Won’t Let You Sleep Tonight) all used to hang out, skate, and do music. Kasson had a synth band called Disjointed Images. I was super inspired by watching him construct whole tracks on his Ensoniq – EPS. I knew that I could make much more complete sound constructions with a sampling workstation. He eventually helped me decide on which keyboard to go with. I got a Roland W-30 and went to it. All the first stuff I did on the W-30 was very slow strings and pitched down tap kicks. it only had like 7 seconds of sampling time so I was just sampling snippets (sound and voice bits and breathing).

I started moving more into a straight forward beat based direction. When Todd and I eventually moved to Columbus, we started B|Re with Titonton Duvante and Archetype (Charles Noel). We played out a lot regionally and recorded a cassette with James Towning of Fact 22.

I left B|Re in 1992 to pursue darker more experimental endeavors and created Bath (held up for a couple of months in an unfinished attic of a very old house in Minneapolis working on parts then back to Ohio for completion). Did several releases as Bath with a revolving cast of members. During Bath we recorded some trax as a project called Voiceless which actually just ended up on some Bath releases.

In 1997 I started working with Jason Adams (RIP) aka Agate of the 1954 collective and we set up a studio in a floor of an office building. He joined Bath and we had a bunch of other projects going on also. I did a solo project as pis*freak which turned into a Textbeak album and was released on Vaatican Records out of France. During the sessions for Bath’s Endpoint and Fireworshiper, we recorded a track called Redshot which was a live jam with Jason, Voctave (Rob Nagy), and myself with vocals by Christie of Bath and Eric Alleman doing spoken word. This was released first before the Bath album as 1954 on the 2122 Corporation on 12″ vinyl format in 1999. Released another 12″ on 2122 as TXT for the track called “Texturally the Lean Spirit History” in 2002. A lot of the 1954 work from all those sessions has not even seen the light of day yet.

As Textbeak I have done a bunch of solo releases. In the 2000′s did some work with DECOHERE aka Jason Motil (RIP) as TXT and DECO. I have been releasing his DECOHERE work posthumously on Vaatican. A track we did together with Claus Muzak is going to be appearing on an upcoming compilation for DECAY IN RESPONSE.

3 tracks that I did with Jason Adams with Voctave on vocals are going to be on a self released limited CDR split with Greenlander who also played at CVRRENTS at SXSW last March.

Can you tell me a little about your new album, and what has inspired it, both thematically and artistically? Can you tell me a little about TNDROND and what makes it different from your regular recordings as TEXTBEAK? Also, how did you hook up with Accident Records?

The new release coming out on September 18th on I Had An Accident Records is called The Spirit of Opposition and it is actually a sort of comp of me and my crew TNDROND which stands for The New Deal Representatives of Northern Disco {a cult}. The name TNDROND references northern disco meaning cold indie (in death sic) and cold electronics. TNDROND on this release is Voctave and DEFA from BATH so basically this is BATH but with everybody taking the lead on writing and song construction on different tracks. It also features remixes by Nattymari (Clan Destine Records / Aural Sects) and Adam Boose (Swarm of Bats) of Cauliflower Audio who mastered my INDIGLO release on TUNDRA DUBS last year.

I Had An Accident has been releasing really great tapes from artists like Daytime Television, Slowhead, and Nattymari. I was super happy that they were down to do this release with us.

I also have 2 other releases getting ready to drop. A single for my track GATCHAMAN which is a tribute to the Japanese animation classic. It will feature remixes by Strange Powers, Oliver Ho, Slowhead, and High Park and should be out in October on 12″ and digital on Post-Religion.

After that I have a release coming up for the second TEXTBEAK and TNDROND called Anti Religion on Aural Sects. Ceremonial Dagger did a killer poster for it and that is available now from Pale Noir.

Also I have some collab tracks with Nove Mura that are in the works and also been working on some tracks with Witchboy plus I just did vocals for an EBM track with Preperation Hate. I also have a track on the Phantasma Disques compilation tribute to Dario Argento’s Suspiria.

Can you tell me a little about the track that we’re leaking, what is its story and inspiration?

The track we are featuring for download is called “THE ONLY” and it is by DEFA and myself. I did this monologue about a story Lucas (Claus Muzak) told me about when he was in Death Valley. He said is was so quiet and out of nowhere he heard this bird flapping and it freaked him out. When he looked up at the bird, it was actually very high up and just sounded close bc there were no other sounds to interfere.

Ben (DEFA) chopped it up and bitcrushed my vox over a beat loop and then just totally jammed heavily distorted live bass over it. I then recrunched the whole track even more. It’s a big awesome pile of fuckyuck

When you listen to music these days what do you find most fulfilling stylistically, are there any artists you can point to as some of your current favorites?

I am not really into a single genre and that is why my mixtapes tend to go all over the place. I am really into things that spectrally blow my mind. Modern Howl and BATHAUS are really inspiring to me right now. The new Prosymna album’s production is really sick. Also really into Factory Floor, Led Er Est, and Tropic of Cancer. I tried to feature as much of what I am digging currently as possible in the mixtape and that is why it turned into such a big two part beast. There is just a ton of good music out right now.

What is the genesis of TXTBK’s CHVяCH XV BяXK3N 7ANGvAG3?

I started CXB7 in January 2012. Rage at Karnival Radio hit me up to do a show because of my diverse taste so I thought the best way to do a show would be to let the music do the talking so hence the BRXK3N 7ANGVAG3.

What is your favorite piece of your own music that you’ve recorded?

Prolly my favorite thing that I’ve done is one of the releases that is kind of not very well known. False Shit was released on the experimental label Amduscius Records. I was super thrilled that Adrian Smith from Click Click really dug that release and had some super positive things to say about it as I am a huge fan of Click Click and even included a Click Click classic on the new TWINDISFIGUREDBLACKHOLEZ mixtape for IVIYH. http://archive.org/details/AMR169

What song by another artist do you find the most moving?

“Blood from the Air” by Coil
It stirs me deeply.

Can you tell me a little about Philtre, how it got started, and the ethos/mission statement of your label?

Philtre was started by Claus Muzak. I joined and we became an LLC in 2006. We were all about being anti genre because we loved so many different things in music. It was all about the love ov musick and PHILTRE was our FILTER.

“Die Liebe Ist Die Größte Kraft”

When we started Philtre we had digital distribution through Kompakt mp3 and several other major sites. Most of these sites eventually folded as the industry changed. We decided to put all of our label stuff that we had released up for free on the philtre.com page. Lucas became very busy with his music app company The Strange Agency (the name was from my old blog) and I with my own music so we didn’t have time to really pursue the label as much so the page just sits there as an archive until we get time to do more with it. We both just have so much on our plates at the moment (including new Bath material in the works) that we have no time to devote to Philtre at the moment. This may change at any time.

Did you have much communication with the very mysterious Mater Suspiria Vision when they created their mix for the show? What are you allowed to reveal about MSV if so?

All communications with MSV take place telepathically. I am not actually sure that MSV actually ever did a radio show or is doing it again coming up on October 21st. I feel as if I am in a trance state and as if I am caught in a tides of a strange lucid dream. For further questions on these matters please consult The Marble Index

Having a front row seat as the formation takes place of what the music business is becoming, do you like what you’re seeing, do you feel the new way artists are emerging online is a true level playing field, or has the machinery just put on a different outfit and decentralized?

The system is changing and everyone is doing their best to roll with the punches from their angles. It is the nature.

I feel that there is a constant tug of war between all factions and ideas. No two people completely share the same view and everyone has their filter. It just is the nature of existing as an organism. You either survive or you don’t. Therefore all is constantly in a flux and very much so now in the industry and the world in general.

If I were to vacation in your hell what should I expect to find there?

“Dirty filthy rubbish” or the opposite. Lost love and herringbones. Abysmal thoughts living at the edge of the world.

Have you ever had an experience with the supernatural you could tell me about?

Well, that is a deep subject.

One of the funniest things that would happen when I was staying in the attic in Minneapolis was that things would power on and of by themselves all the time (my only lighting was some white Xmas lights around my bed and those would turn on and off at random but the best was that the stereo would turn on randomly and play loudly in the middle of the night. I had a multi disk changer but it always chose Diamanda Galas screaming or Cocteau Twins “Blood Bitch”. I guess it just liked warbly vocals. First time it happened totally pooped a little.

Have you ever been to a psychic, can you tell me about this experience?

A palm reader told me I had to do more, then I attempted suicide

Do you believe things happen for a reason, do you have an experience with this that you could discuss?
